In April 2016, when a devastating earthquake hit the country, 7,000 buildings were destroyed. SOS Children's Villages started an emergency program to support families and children who had been affected, by setting up camp in the shelters and have social workers help children and their families in the area. During my recent visit in December I visited camps in Muisne and Pedernales. The camps are made to house people in need of shelter. The camps are managed by the Ecuadorian military and police.
